Reddit is introducing a personalised For You feed to help users find new communities, discussions, and topics that match their interests, while retaining a separate feed for content from communities they already follow.
Announced on October 28, 2026, the update gives users two ways to browse the platform: a recommendation-based feed that combines existing interests with suggested content, and a Following feed focused exclusively on joined communities.
The rollout is expected to reach users globally over the following weeks.
How Reddit’s New Feeds Work
The two feeds are designed to serve different browsing needs.
-
For You: Combines posts from communities users have joined with algorithmically recommended content, helping them discover new discussions and subreddits.
-
Following: Displays posts only from communities users have already joined, allowing them to catch up without recommendations from outside those groups.
Reddit is giving the For You feed the more prominent position in its updated interface to encourage discovery. However, it will not automatically become the default landing page for every user.
Instead, the app will reopen to whichever feed a user last viewed, and people can switch between the two at any time.
More Personalised Recommendations and User Controls
Reddit says the update is part of its wider effort to help people find relevant conversations and communities across the platform.
Its recommendation system will use users’ interests and activity to suggest posts and communities they may not otherwise encounter. The company hopes this will encourage people to participate in new discussions and develop interests beyond the communities they already follow.
Reddit also plans to continue testing additional controls that allow users to shape their feeds. These include hiding posts and indicating which types of content they would prefer to see less often.
Such feedback could help the platform make recommendations more relevant to individual users.
Algorithmic Feeds Face Growing Scrutiny
The launch comes amid broader debate about how recommendation algorithms influence what people see on social media.
Personalised feeds can help users discover useful information and relevant communities, but their effectiveness depends on the quality of the recommendations and the level of control users have over their experience.
Reddit’s decision to retain the Following feed alongside For You gives users an alternative when they want to focus on communities they have deliberately joined.
The company has not presented the update as a replacement for existing browsing options. Instead, it is adding another way for people to explore the platform.
Global Rollout Underway
Reddit says the new feed experience will be introduced worldwide over several weeks. The company also plans to continue experimenting with navigation and personalisation features as it evaluates how people use the updated experience.
For Reddit, the challenge will be to make recommendations useful enough to encourage discovery without undermining users’ control over their feeds. The new arrangement gives the platform more opportunities to connect people with communities while preserving a more focused option for those who prefer it.
