Amazon is expanding Alexa for Shopping with more than 100 new capabilities, allowing US customers to manage shopping lists, subscriptions, refunds, delivery instructions, and membership benefits through simple conversations.

Amazon is making its AI-powered shopping assistant more useful beyond product discovery, introducing new features that let customers handle everyday shopping tasks without navigating multiple sections of their accounts.

The update enables users to create gift lists and registries, adjust recurring deliveries, check gift card balances, track refunds, and resolve billing questions by asking Alexa for Shopping to complete the relevant action.

According to Amazon, the new capabilities are available to all customers in the United States through the Amazon Shopping app and the company's desktop shopping website.

The expansion reflects Amazon's push to make its AI assistant a more active part of the shopping process, helping customers manage purchases and account-related tasks as well as find products.

Alexa for Shopping expands beyond product recommendations

Amazon says Alexa for Shopping can draw on information about hundreds of millions of products, including product details and customer reviews, alongside a customer's shopping history, to support product research and purchasing decisions.

The assistant can help shoppers compare products, discover deals, review price histories covering up to a year, and receive recommendations tailored to their interests.

It also supports features designed to help customers decide when to buy. With its auto-buy capability, for example, the assistant can purchase an eligible item when its price reaches a target set by the customer.

Other tools allow users to receive alerts about product releases, restocks, and price changes, giving them more ways to monitor items without repeatedly checking product pages.

Amazon says more than 400 million customers used Alexa for Shopping over the past 12 months. The company also reports that use of its agentic shopping features has increased more than eightfold since the beginning of 2026.

These figures are based on Amazon's own disclosures.

Customers can manage lists and registries through conversation

One of the main additions allows customers to create, update and organise shopping lists and registries by describing what they want to do.

The assistant can help users prepare grocery lists, maintain holiday wish lists, organise baby registries and manage wedding registries. It can also add items, move products between lists and show which items remain on a registry.

For example, a customer could ask Alexa for Shopping to create a new list, add products to a baby registry or display the items still needed for a wedding.

The feature could reduce the number of steps involved in maintaining lists, particularly for shoppers organising purchases for holidays, family events or major life milestones.

Subscribe & Save deliveries become easier to manage

Amazon is also extending conversational controls to its Subscribe & Save service, which allows customers to receive eligible products on a recurring schedule.

Instead of manually navigating subscription settings, users can ask the assistant to skip an upcoming delivery, pause a subscription, or change how frequently an item arrives.

For households that regularly order essentials, these options could make it easier to adjust deliveries when their needs change and avoid receiving products before they are needed.

The feature gives customers another way to manage recurring purchases while keeping control over their delivery schedules.

Prime members can check benefits and savings

The new capabilities also cover Amazon memberships and other subscriptions.

Customers can ask questions about their Prime benefits, check how much they have saved through Prime during the year or find out when an Audible subscription is due to renew.

This makes it easier to retrieve membership information through a conversation rather than searching through account pages.

Amazon has not provided a separate breakdown of how much time customers might save by using these new commands.

Delivery instructions, payments, and refunds are included

The assistant can now handle several account-management tasks that previously required customers to locate the relevant settings or order information.

New capabilities include:

  • Delivery instructions: Customers can request changes to delivery instructions on their accounts or for specific addresses.

  • Billing questions: Users can ask about an unfamiliar charge on their Amazon account.

  • Gift cards: Customers can check their available gift card balance.

  • Refund tracking: Shoppers can ask for updates on a refund.

  • Account information: Users can request changes to supported account settings through conversational commands.

These features are intended to simplify routine interactions with Amazon, particularly when customers need information about an order, payment or delivery.

However, the announcement does not establish that every billing dispute or account issue can be fully resolved through the assistant. The available actions may depend on the specific request and account circumstances.

Amazon says the assistant is becoming more personal

Amazon's broader strategy involves using AI to make shopping more convenient and tailored to individual customers.

According to the company, Alexa for Shopping can become more personalised over time by learning from conversations, browsing activity, purchases and stated preferences.

That information can help it offer more relevant product recommendations and support shopping tasks based on a customer's interests and past behaviour.

The company has also developed other AI-powered shopping tools. These include visual search, which lets customers use a photograph to find a product or discover similar items, and Amazon Lens and Lens Live, which enable shopping through the camera in the Amazon Shopping app.

Amazon's “Update Me When” feature can notify customers about new releases and restocks, while Shop Direct helps shoppers discover and purchase products from stores across the web.

Together, these tools demonstrate how Amazon is combining conversational AI, product discovery, price monitoring and account management across its shopping services.

Availability is currently limited to US customers

Amazon says the new capabilities are available now to all its customers in the United States.

Users can access Alexa for Shopping by tapping the Alexa icon in the Amazon Shopping app or finding the assistant at the top of the screen on the desktop website.

The company has not announced an international rollout schedule for these new features.

Amazon Vice President of Conversational Shopping Rajiv Mehta said the expansion supports the company's goal of making every part of shopping more convenient, from preparing gift lists to addressing billing questions.

The company says it plans to continue developing additional capabilities as it expands the role of AI across the shopping experience.
