LinkedIn is broadening the ways professionals can earn money from their expertise and content. The platform has introduced new advertising opportunities, paid consultation services, and improved creator analytics as it strengthens its appeal to creators and industry experts.

The updates include tests of pre-roll advertisements on creator videos, additional search filters in the Creator Marketplace, and a refreshed analytics dashboard. LinkedIn also introduced a new service allowing eligible Premium subscribers to charge for one-on-one advice sessions directly through the platform.

The company is also bringing back pinned comments and introducing private notes to help users manage professional relationships more effectively.

LinkedIn tests ad revenue sharing for creator videos

One of the biggest changes is a new advertising option that allows brands to place pre-roll ads alongside relevant videos published by creators and publishers.

Unlike traditional influencer campaigns, the format does not require advertisers to establish direct partnership agreements with individual creators before promoting their content. Instead, creators can opt in to make eligible videos available for brand advertising.

Participating creators will receive a share of the revenue generated by ads shown alongside their content, thereby creating another potential income stream for professionals who regularly publish videos on LinkedIn.

The initiative builds on existing offerings such as BrandLink and Thought Leader Ads, which allow businesses to advertise alongside creator content or sponsor posts. The new approach is designed to make those opportunities accessible without requiring a separately negotiated creator partnership.

LinkedIn says the feature is in its early testing phase, with additional details expected later.

New Creator Marketplace filters help brands find partners

LinkedIn is also improving its Creator Marketplace to make it easier for advertisers to identify professionals whose audiences and expertise align with their campaigns.

New search filters will let brands narrow their searches by factors including audience focus, subject-matter expertise, and preferred content formats.

The changes could help businesses move beyond broad creator searches and identify people whose professional knowledge and content are better suited to specific marketing objectives.

For creators, more detailed discovery tools could improve their chances of being considered for relevant sponsorship opportunities.

Premium members can charge for one-on-one advice

LinkedIn is introducing Advice Sessions, a feature that allows eligible professionals to offer consultations directly from their profiles.

Premium subscribers who meet the requirements can provide free or paid one-on-one sessions, with payments handled securely through LinkedIn. The feature is intended to help experts turn their professional knowledge into a direct source of income without relying on external booking and payment arrangements.

Profile verification is mandatory for people offering consultations. LinkedIn says this requirement is intended to give members greater confidence in the identity and credentials of the professionals they engage.

The company also plans to introduce an expert showcase page to help users discover consultants across different professional categories.

Advice Sessions are currently available to hosts in the United States, with broader access expected to follow.

Updated analytics give creators a clearer view of performance

The platform is rolling out a redesigned profile insights dashboard that brings together information about content performance, potential monetisation opportunities and other creator-related metrics.

The update is intended to help professionals better understand how their content performs and identify opportunities to develop their presence on LinkedIn into a more sustainable business.

In addition, LinkedIn is introducing private notes, allowing users to record details about their connections and keep track of relevant professional information.

Premium All-in-One subscribers are also receiving additional options to increase the reach of their content within the platform.

Pinned comments return to LinkedIn

Another update restores the ability to pin comments beneath posts.

Authors will be able to highlight useful contributions, direct readers towards important responses, and help shape discussions around their content.

LinkedIn previously introduced pinned comments to some users in 2022 but subsequently withdrew the feature. Its return gives creators and other members another way to manage conversations and ensure valuable contributions remain visible.

The feature could be particularly useful for posts that attract extensive discussion, where important answers might otherwise become difficult to find among numerous replies.

LinkedIn is building a broader creator economy

Taken together, the updates expand LinkedIn's role beyond professional networking and content distribution towards a platform where creators can generate revenue through several channels.

Video advertising offers a potential source of recurring earnings, the Creator Marketplace improves access to brand partnerships, and Advice Sessions create a direct route for experts to monetise their knowledge.

Meanwhile, improved analytics and content promotion tools give creators additional ways to understand and grow their audiences.

For professionals building businesses around their expertise, the changes offer more opportunities to connect content creation with commercial activity. The impact will depend partly on how widely the new features become available and how effectively creators can turn their visibility and professional credibility into paying opportunities.
