X is seeking to attract more developers to its platform by revamping an online directory that highlights applications built with its API, giving creators a way to promote their tools and helping users discover integrations they may find useful.

The redesigned API Exhibit features official partners, public utility applications, and emerging agent-based projects. According to X, the updated site has been rebuilt to help developers showcase their applications and increase their chances of being discovered.

In a post announcing the changes, X Developers described the platform as “Rebuilt from the ground up to help you showcase your X API app and get discovered.”

The new interface offers developers greater control over how their projects appear in the directory. It also supports submissions of Grok Bot templates and agent skill files, expanding the range of AI-powered applications developers can display.

A new route to visibility for developers

The Exhibit gives developers a dedicated space to present applications that use X data and functionality. By bringing these projects together in one public directory, the platform hopes to make useful integrations easier for users to find and encourage wider adoption of its API.

The initiative could also help developers promote their products without relying entirely on their own marketing channels. Greater exposure may be particularly valuable for smaller teams building niche applications, automation tools or services powered by X data.

However, the showcase alone may not be enough to persuade developers to return in large numbers. The platform's earlier decisions on API access and pricing have significantly reshaped its third-party development community.

Efforts to reconnect with developers

X has spent recent years trying to limit unauthorised access to its data, including by restricting access that could be used by artificial intelligence developers to scrape information from the platform.

Its API pricing changes also created difficulties for third-party services. In 2024, the company substantially increased access fees, putting pressure on applications that depended on its data. Many developers subsequently faced higher operating costs, while some services struggled to maintain their businesses.

X adjusted its pricing approach in 2025, introducing usage-based options intended to make API access more appealing to smaller developers. Even so, restrictions and the cost of accessing data have continued to present challenges for those seeking to build commercially viable products.

The revamped Exhibit appears to be another attempt to improve the appeal of developing on X by making it easier for existing applications to reach potential users.

Can the showcase revive the ecosystem?

The changes reflect a wider challenge for X: restoring developer confidence after years of disruption to its API ecosystem.

Third-party tools once played a significant role in extending Twitter's functionality, with independent developers creating products for scheduling, analytics, content management, and social media monitoring. Those applications also made the platform more useful by giving users alternative ways to interact with its services.

Rebuilding that environment requires more than a directory of featured projects. Developers also need dependable access to data, manageable costs, and confidence that the platform's policies will remain consistent.

X's latest update provides a new promotional opportunity for developers who continue to build with its API. Whether that translates into sustained growth will depend on how effectively the company combines greater visibility with an environment that supports long-term development.

For now, the relaunched Exhibit gives creators another way to put their X-powered applications in front of users, while signalling the company's continued interest in expanding the range of tools built around its platform.
