Skills Required:
- MERN stack: proficiency in MongoDB, Express, React, and Node.js, and related technologies like Redis
- APIs: experience building scalable RESTful APIs
- Frontend: experience building usable, responsive web front ends using React and CSS or similar technologies
- Databases: database design and optimization, state management, and third-party integrations
- DevOps: familiarity with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines
- Operational excellence: observability, on-call, incident response, and reliability practices for production systems
- Security and privacy: designing systems with adversarial users in mind, and handling sensitive user data with appropriate privacy and access controls

- Interest in online communities, VR, or VRChat (as a user or creator)
Advantage: Understanding of game client/server architecture and data flow, especially for telemetry or abuse vectors; Unity/C# experience (for in-game safety UI such as reporting flows); ML-adjacent systems experience (model serving, evaluation, human-in-the-loop pipelines); experience working in or with moderation or Trust and Safety teams; familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

VRChat is hiring a full-stack engineer for its Trust and Safety Tech team to build low-friction, scalable moderation, anti-abuse, and safety systems on a Node.js/Mongo backend and React frontend. The company hires engineers to solve real user problems rather than implement specs, with the aim of helping VRChat scale safely and protect growth and trust. - Developing, implementing, and maintaining new features for the VRChat platform and operational team
- Enhancing safety systems and building the UI/UX and backend systems for support, moderation, and safety operations, with attention to cost and user privacy
- Collaborating with product managers, designers, and other engineers to turn product and design vision into functional code
- Contributing to all stages of the feature lifecycle, from prototyping to deployment and post-launch iteration
- Keeping critical moderation and safety services usable, stable, reliable, and performant, including on-call rotations as needed
- Participating in code reviews to maintain high standards for code quality, architecture, and reliability
