Salary/Pay: Base salary of $214,200 to $308,000 USD. The role may also be eligible for bonus or incentive compensation, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package.
Experience: Director level. 10+ years in security or software engineering, including 4+ years managing security teams, ideally including managers of managers or equivalent scope.
Skills Required:
• Genuine software engineering background, with production software shipped
• Proven record of building and scaling high-performing security teams
• Deep technical fluency in cloud-native environments: AWS multi-account governance, Kubernetes, identity and access, detection engineering and modern SDLC security
• Cross-functional leadership with engineering, IT and product teams
• Strong written communication, including decision-ready documents
• Executive presence when presenting to C-level leaders, customers and auditors
• Strong signals: Experience building paved-path or secure-by-default platforms; compliance experience (FedRAMP, SOC 2, ISO 27001); experience securing AI/ML systems or governing AI adoption; experience scaling security through automation when headcount was scarce.

Abnormal AI is hiring a Director of Security, reporting to the CISO, to lead its Security Engineering organization. The company runs a commercial cloud environment and a separate FedRAMP-authorized environment. You will act as deputy to the CISO and represent security to executives, customers and regulators.
Your work will include:
• Leading and growing managers and senior engineers across Security Engineering and Security Operations
• Owning the security roadmap: cloud security architecture (AWS-first), detection and response, identity, vulnerability management and secure-by-default platforms
• Driving cross-functional programs, from AI security governance to data perimeter controls and federal compliance
• Setting engineering standards (everything as code, automated, measured by outcomes)
• Building hiring pipelines and owning performance management and succession planning
• Translating technical risk into business terms for executives and the board
