Skills Required:
- AI coding agents: daily use, with strong opinions about what makes a tool work well with them
- Developer tooling: experience building an MCP server, plugin, CLI, or SDK that real developers use
- Programming: software engineering background in languages like TypeScript and Go, with comfort with APIs, OAuth, and the command line
- Databases: experience with relational databases (Postgres, MySQL, SQLite), including schema design, migrations, connection handling, and running Postgres or MySQL in production
- Data fluency: designing evals, writing the queries behind a dashboard, and telling a real trend from noise
- Content creation: writing docs, blogs, or videos, and communicating with a broad audience and customers on social media
- Communication: clear communication of technical ideas in writing, on video, and on stage
- Independence: spotting a gap, shipping a fix, and telling people about it
- Curiosity: keeping up with the AI tooling landscape

PlanetScale is hiring an AI Developer Experience Engineer to own how its databases are created, connected, and queried by AI agents such as Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex. The role combines engineering, content creation, and a strong public voice, working closely with the teams that build the MCP server, CLI, API, and docs. Your work will include:
- Building and maintaining PlanetScale plugins in AI marketplaces and directories, and owning integrations with AI coding tools, agent frameworks, and platforms
- Testing the PlanetScale MCP server and CLI across Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, VS Code, and other clients, and catching regressions before users do
- Finding friction in creating databases, connecting, running migrations, and debugging queries from inside an agent, then fixing it or driving the fix
- Improving the context agents rely on, such as tool descriptions, skills, llms.txt, agent-friendly docs, and actionable error messages
- Optimizing for AEO so agents find and recommend PlanetScale, and building skills for Postgres, MySQL, Vitess, Neki, and PlanetScale
- Building evals and benchmarks that run real agent tasks, and tracking how often AI assistants recommend PlanetScale and whether they describe it accurately
- Reporting on agent usage, including databases created by agents, time to first connection, MCP versus CLI usage, and where sessions fail
- Creating demos, sample apps, docs, guides, blog posts, and videos, and speaking at conferences
