Job Title: Software Engineer, AI Coding Tasks

Company: Askable

Job Type: Contract, task-based, remote.

Location: Remote, any location. Nigeria-based payment arrangements aren't stated.

Salary/Pay: USD 1,000 per task that passes quality review, paid directly to you. You can do as many tasks as you want. Pay is only for tasks that pass review, and most tasks need more than one round of revisions.

Experience: 2+ years of professional software engineering

Skills Required:

  • Code merged into a public open-source repository (ideally one you know well), or a private codebase you own (not employer or client code)
  • Strong skills in at least one of Python, TypeScript, Go, Rust, Java, or C++
  • Solid knowledge of Docker, Linux, Git, and automated testing
  • Regular use of an AI coding tool
  • Experience writing tests, rubrics, or evaluation criteria, ideally for AI models
  • Ability to explain a change clearly and concisely in your own words
  • At least 10 hours a week, starting now
  • A secure personal or work computer (no public or shared machines)
  • Advantageous: deep expertise in an area such as databases, compilers, distributed systems, security, or infrastructure, and experience building agent tasks or RL environments

Date Posted: Oct 17, 2026

Application Deadline: Not stated

Description:
Askable is looking for experienced software engineers to build AI coding tasks from a codebase they know well. You turn a real change from a repository you know into a task that top AI coding models struggle with, but that a skilled engineer can fairly solve. The tasks are used to measure and train AI coding models.

How it works:

  1. Apply, complete a short screener interview, and upload your resume
  2. Propose a change from a repository you know; Askable approves it or suggests a better one
  3. Build the task on Askable's platform: set up the repository as it was before the change, then write the brief, the correct solution, and the grading checks
  4. Stress-test it with lazy, incorrect, and shortcut solutions to make sure your checks catch them
  5. Run it against leading AI models until strong models often fail but a skilled engineer can solve it
  6. A reviewer checks your task, and you revise it
  7. Once accepted, start another task

Terms: once your proposal is qualified, you sign Askable's contract. The work is used for AI training; the change and solution must be your own, and you must be free to license them to Askable. You must not publish the work anywhere, including public pull requests or forks.
